Hanukkah Begins

Hanukkah Begins

158

As Christians enter the second week of Advent, our Jewish friends and neighbors begin Hanukkah, the eight-day Festival of Light that commemorates the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple in 165 B.C. Hanukkah begins this year at sundown on Tuesday, December 12, and ends at nightfall on Wednesday, December 20. Some children may be very familiar with Jewish practice and tradition while others have little knowledge of this faith. Remind the children that Jesus and his family were Jews. Then share the history of Hanukkah and the significance of the menorah included in this free resource page.
