As a new school year begins, it’s a good opportunity to establish what children may or may not know. In religious education, this means starting with the basics: How familiar are the children with the structure and books of the Bible? Do they know the prayers of the Church—the Lord’s Prayer, the Sign of the Cross, the Creed, and the Hail Mary? Pflaum offers free Early Start lessons for those schools and parishes that begin classes before the Gospel Weeklies lessons begin on September 23 for the 25th Week in Ordinary Time.
Early Start lessons can be used at any time, in any order. Unlike regular lessons that focus on the Sunday Gospel message, these Early Start lessons emphasize topics that will support student learning throughout the year, including prayer and Bible study. These lessons are available to all Pflaum users for all levels: Seeds, Promise, Good News, Venture, and Visions.

I cannot print these lessons. Is there a specific begin date that they are available?
The Early Start lessons are currently available to download and print. Please click the “Click to view in full screen” option (lower middle) on the main page of the lessons. A window of options will appear lower right. The sixth option (the down arrow, next to the printer icon) will permit you to download and save the file. Then you should have no trouble opening and printing the file. Some folks are able to print directly from this menu, others not. I hope these instructions help, and you enjoy using these lessons with the children.
