Catechists as Disciples

Catechists as Disciples

280

As you prepare for fall catechist training, prayerfully consider Matthew 28:19: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” How might our approach to catechist formation change when we regard catechists as disciples?

In “Three Steps Toward Catechist Formation,” James Blankenship shares his takeaways from Sherry Weddell’s Forming Intentional Disciples: The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus. This book inspired him to develop a three-step catechist formation plan he uses in his own parish. Blankenship urges ministry leaders to develop relationships with their catechists and to encourage them to be spiritually curious. He also includes ideas for supporting catechists with ongoing formation throughout the year. This Catechist article is available as a downloadable PDF.
