Sunday, June 17, is Father’s Day in the United States. It was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd. She wanted to honor dedicated dads like her own, a Civil War veteran who raised six children as a single father. While it’s not officially a Church holiday, Father’s Day celebrates the gifts of paternal love and constancy. Remind children that they can express their love and appreciation in many ways. They can make special treats and cards. They also can offer special prayers for their dad, grandfather, stepfather, and other special men in their lives. Children may choose to pray one of these prayers for fathers from Xavier University or be inspired to offer one of their own.
