Tell them you will show them how to play the game; then they can play with each other.Read the directions aloud and follow them, explaining tothe children what you are doing. You do not need to make your marker go all the way to FINISH. Decide if your class is better playing alone or with partners. Distribute pencils, game markers, and coins. Give the children time for one game. Discuss how they enjoyed it. If there is time, play a second game. If not, tell the children to show their families how to play at home.Closing Prayer Gather in the prayer circle. Begin with the Sign of the Cross. Ask the children if there is anyone or anything they wish to pray for. Lead them in the response “Lord, hear our prayer” after each petition. Invite the children to make the Sign of the Cross without words. Stop them when they reach for their left shoulder. They are literally crossing their heart. Encourage them to think about this whenever they make the Sign of the Cross. They are crossing their hearts to promise to do everything in God’s name.Read together the fourth paragraph. Tell the children that anytime they enter and exit the church, they should bless themselves with holy water in the Sign of the Cross as a reminder that they are children of God.Have the children close the What the Church Believes and Teaches handbooks and return to Promise, pages 2–3.Live the GospelObjective The children will identify people in their church community.Gospel Activity l Jesus gathers his friends (pages 2–3) Show the children how to spread out their copies of Promise so pages 2–3 are showing. Ask: What do you see here? It is a game with some empty spaces and some spaces with pictures of people on them. Read the name of the game together. Ask: Can you find Jesus on the START space? Who are the people Jesus is gathering? Altar server, boy, girl, priest, little child, grandpa, religion teacher, lots of children, a mom or another lady at church.Call attention to the score cards. Notice that the same people are on the score cards.
