September 24, 2017 • 25th Sunday in Ordinary TimeSunday Readings: Isaiah 55:6–9; Philippians 1:20c–24, 27a; Matthew 20:1–16aFor Catechists and TeachersScripture BackgroundThis Sunday, Jesus tells the story of a vineyard owner who needs workers. He pays workers hired for only an hour’s work the same day’s wage as those hired at dawn. This story is not really about wages. It’s about God’s love, which abounds for all of us. The children explore how people in their lives are loving and generous to them.Connecting Scripture and Doctrine“The Christian message concentrates on the person of Jesus Christ.... [The Gospels] transmit the life, message, and saving actions of Jesus Christ.... Catechesis must be centered in the Gospels, because ‘Jesus Christ is their center’” (National Directory for Catechesis, 25A). See also Catechism of the Catholic Church, 514–515.Sharing the Lesson with FamiliesShare with parents that each week, Seeds will help their child learn about Jesus. Through stories and sense-involving activities, their child will grow to understand himself or herself as part of God’s good Creation, as a child of God, and as a member of God’s family, the Church.Encourage parents to take time each week to go through Seeds and invite their child to use the illustrations to tell them the Gospel story. They might wish to discuss the other illustrations together and listen to the songs their child has learned. Their child will enjoy teaching them.Single-Session Lesson Pacing GuidesNote: These pacing guides are suggestions for how to present the lesson.
