As a class, choose one Work of Mercy to do during Advent, which begins next week. Ideas could include drawing cards for people living in nursing homes, making sandwiches for a local soup kitchen, or collecting outgrown clothes to donate.●  November 28: Saint James of the Marche – This 15th-century saint established montes pietatis or “mountains of charity,” charitable pawnbrokers for people who needed low-interest loans. Saint James traveled throughout Europe, preaching and converting people to Christianity. Say a prayer today for those who do not have food, water, or housing.●  November 30: Saint Andrew, the Apostle – Older brother of Peter, Andrew is patron of fishermen, singers, and Scotland. Saint Andrew spread the Good News through the area that is modern-day Greece and Turkey.
