everyone he met. “God loves you very much.” He went from village to village telling this Good News. Peter, Andrew, James, John,
and many other people went with him, telling the Good News to everyone.
Activity ● Gospel Creative Drama (page 1) Distribute Seeds and direct attention to the cover picture. Ask: What is happening? What else do you see? Instruct the children to use their bodies and faces, but not their voices, to show you:
● what Jesus did during the 40 days in the desert
● how Jesus felt after he had talked to God
● how Jesus went from village to village telling the Good News
about how much God loves us
Conclude by asking the children one by one to use their voices to tell some Good News they know about Jesus and God.
Distribute the children’s What the Church Believes and Teaches handbooks.
on the heavy lines. Set the yellow crosses aside. Distribute crayons and pencils. Direct the children to draw their own face in the middle of the flower and color the petals, leaves, and stem.
When all have finished the flower side, direct them to turn the page over. Have aides help each child complete the “Age” and “I can” lines. Have another aide measure each child and fill in the “Height” space. If time is limited, send these home to be completed by parents.
Direct the children to fold their papers on the dotted line with the flower on the inside. Read the title aloud to them. Explain that Lent is a time when we grow in loving God and in showing love to each other. Then tell the children to lift the flap to see their flowers grow.
Activity ● I am a child of God. (pages 3–4) Put the flowers aside and call the children’s attention to the side of the cross that reads “I am ________, a child of God.” Read it aloud and help each child print his or her name on the line provided. Fold on the dotted line so that cross is on top. One by one, loop a length of yarn under the fold and tie the yarn around each child’s neck. Point out that the three prayers you prayed today are on the other yellow crosses so they can practice them at home.
Closing Prayer Invite the children to each tell one thing they are thankful for. The whole group responds, “Thank you, God,” after each person speaks. When all have contributed, close the prayer by saying, “Amen.”
Play and sing “God Loves Me” (CD-2, #15) to bring your Seeds session to a close.
Remind the children to share their Gospel Weeklies with their families and to do the Family Corner activities and prayer together.
What the Church Believes and Teaches
Prayers to Know (page 32)
Ask: What are the names of the prayers we prayed in
our Seeds class today? Sign of the Cross, Lord’s Prayer (or
Our Father), Hail Mary. Note that these are some of the prayers Alaina’s grandma taught her. The children will learn these prayers by heart so they can feel more a part of the community that uses these prayers.
As you did earlier with the Lord’s Prayer and Hail Mary, help the children learn these prayers by saying a line and having them repeat that line after you. Encourage them to pray these prayers at home and in church.
Have the children close the What the Church Believes and Teaches handbooks and return to Seeds, pages 3–4.
    Live the Gospel
Objective The children will learn about Lent.
Activity ● Watch me grow during Lent. (pages 3–4) Distribute pages 3–4 of Seeds. Have the children put the page with the flower faceup on their desks. Show them how to cut
