       March 11, 2018 • 4th Sunday of Lent
Sunday Readings: 2 Chronicles 36:14–16, 19–23; Ephesians 2:4–10; John 3:14–21
        For Catechists and Teachers
Scripture Background
In Sunday’s Gospel, Nicodemus comes to talk to Jesus at night. He is afraid the other Pharisees will see him. Jesus tells him to live the truth and come to the light.
Connecting Scripture and Doctrine
The darkness of night can cause us to be fearful. In this Seeds lesson, the children explore their feelings of being afraid and practice problem-solving skills to deal with fear. They will celebrate that God is always with us, even when we are afraid.
“Catechesis for life in Christ...is a catechesis about sin and forgiveness that helps us confront our sinfulness and accept God’s mercy” (NDC, 40). See also CCC, 620.
Sharing the Lesson with Families
Encourage parents to allow their child to talk about fears. Suggest they guide their child through a fearful time by learning what is frightening him or her.

Editor’s Note: Just as we have the option to use the color rose on the 3rd Sunday of Advent as a sign of our joy, we may also use rose on the 4th Sunday of Lent. This Sunday is known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare (like Advent’s Gaudete) refers
to rejoicing. Christians rejoice in the salvation gained for us by Christ’s suffering, Death, and Resurrection.
