Catholic Identity Project of the Week
Jesus’ command to love isn’t always an easy one to follow. Create
Love One Another Bingo cards to help the children better understand ways we can love one another. In each block, write a different way
the children can love as Jesus loves (appropriate to your group’s age). Ask them to pick a different way to love each day of the week and, when they complete it, to check it off their board. Next week, have the students draw a picture of their experience.
Saints and Feast Days to Celebrate
l May 10: Ascension of the Lord – This is the traditional day for celebrating our Lord’s Ascension 40 days after Easter. Commonly called Ascension Thursday, it’s now celebrated in the US on the following Sunday (May 13 in 2018) except in the archdioceses of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Omaha, Philadelphia. Ask: What feast soon after the Ascension celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit? Pentecost.
l May 10: Saint Damien de Veuster – Some people thought Father Damien was a hero for going to Moloka’i (Hawaii) to live and care for the needs of those with leprosy (Hansen’s disease). Others thought he was crazy. Ask: Was Father Damien more foolish or courageous to risk his life to care for those with leprosy?
