Objectives l The children will:

Activity l Jesus is my teacher. (pages 2) Move to the work area. Direct the children to turn over the cover of Seeds to show a picture of Jesus with children (page 2).
Read the title on page 2. Direct the children to print their names on the line. Invite them to describe the picture. Jesus is teaching a Seeds class. Children like to be around him. Jesus is probably telling them a story. Ask: Which of his stories is Jesus telling them? What are the children telling Jesus about?
Activity l How do I show I am a follower of Jesus? (page 4) Ask the children to turn to page 4 or distribute the precut circles. Have the children put the circles in front of them with the illustrations of children being followers of Jesus faceup.
Talk together about how the children’s actions show they follow Jesus at home, school, and church. Distribute crayons. Direct the children to color the star on each circle that shows a way they follow Jesus.
Activity l I am Jesus’ follower. (page 3) Direct
the children to turn the circles (if precut) or page so the other
side (page 3) shows. Have the children find the circles that say “I follow” and “Jesus.” Invite them to draw a picture of themselves and print their name on one circle and draw a picture of you on the other circle. Go around the room helping. Print your name and the date on the appropriate circle.
If you have not precut the circles (page 3–4), distribute scissors and give the children time to cut them out. It will be easier for them to follow the purple cutting edge on the green page (page 4).
Distribute drinking straws (four per child) to serve as the flower stems. Go around the room and tape the flowers to the straws. When the flowers are ready, ask the children to put the page
with the picture of Jesus and the children faceup on their desks. Go around the room, folding the page under on the bottom left corner, marked with a dotted line, and twisting it gently into a cone. Bring the bottom up slightly and secure it with a piece of tape. Jesus and the children will be on the outside of the cone and the picture of Jesus ascending to Heaven on the inside. Securing the cone lightly will allow the parents to unroll the cone to see their child’s drawing of Jesus. Stuff the cone with a few pieces of tissue or paper napkins to help the flowers stand up. Have the children bring their cones and flowers to the prayer circle.
Closing Prayer Gather in the prayer circle. Invite the children to raise their bouquets in the air and say “Thank you, God” after each sentence:
Thank you, God for all our time together this year. Thank you for our families and friends.
Thank you for the gift of Jesus.
Thank you for sending us your Spirit of peace.
Close your prayer and gathering by singing “Let’s Celebrate Now” (CD-2, #12).
Remind the children to share their Gospel Weeklies with their families and to do the Family Corner activities and prayer together.

Invite the children to draw

Point out that these are just some of the things they learned this year. Encourage them to keep learning about Jesus so that they can grow to love him more too.
Have the children close the What the Church Believes and Teaches handbooks and return to Seeds, pages 2–4.
