This Thursday, August 15, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. What a wonderful moment this must have been for Mary as she was swept into Heaven to be reunited with her beloved son and Savior! All the earthly trials and pains that resulted from her fiat, her “Let it be” at the Annunciation, were released as she was taken body and soul into Heaven.
Mary’s Assumption is a promise for all of us who follow in her footsteps as disciples of Jesus. Because of Mary’s unique relationship with Jesus as his mother and first and most faithful follower, she was taken to Heaven—body and soul—upon her death. We hope to have our bodies reunited with our souls in Heaven at our Lord’s Second Coming.
Let us pray… Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
