Who do you say that Jesus is? We know the correct responses—Son of God, Messiah, Savior, Lord, Redeemer. But what do our lives tell people about Jesus? What difference does our belief in Jesus really make?
As schools and school-year faith formation programs gear up, now is a good time for parish catechists and Catholic school religion teachers to consider how well our walk is matching our talk. Are we truly “putting shoes on the Gospel” in the way we respond to our students, family, and coworkers as well as members of our parish, school, and wider community? Reflect on this statement from Pope Paul VI: “Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses” (On Evangelization in the Modern World, Evangelii Nuntiandi, 41).
Be assured of our prayers for you and your students as you prepare for and begin a new program year. May your life and the lives of all who share the faith witness to the love of God as revealed through Jesus Christ.
