Honoring Saint Valentine

Honoring Saint Valentine

Saint Valentine is not officially honored on the Church’s liturgical calendar. Still, this third-century saint is well-celebrated every February 14. Saint Valentine’s Day is rooted in an act of disobedience. Although he was ordered not to by the emperor Claudius, Valentine honored the wish of soldiers by marrying them to their sweethearts before going into battle. For this reason, he is known as the patron of engaged couples and happy marriages. Share these Valentine’s Day activities with your children: for Seeds children, A Valentine Gift from God / Una targeta de San Valentín de parte de Dios, and for Promise children, A Valentine for Someone Special / Una tarjeta de San Valentín para alguien especial.
