Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month

With Pope Francis’s July 2022 apostolic journey to Canada and meetings with representatives of indigenous peoples there, the relationship between the Catholic Church and Native Americans has been in the spotlight recently. While not all of the history is without blemish, Pope Francis apologized for the past sins of the Catholic Church in relationship to Native Americans and expressed his desire for a path forward “toward an ever more healthy and renewed future.”
