Resources for Ascension and Pentecost

232

The Easter season is coming to its culmination on the Ascension of the Lord (May 10/May 13) and Pentecost (May 20). May 13 is the last lesson of the 2017–18 year of the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies. If your classes continue beyond that Sunday, there are free Late Close Lessons at each level that include a general lesson on the parables and Creation, as well as one for Pentecost. They are available for Seeds, Promise, Good News, Venture, and Visions. There are also a number of Ascension and Pentecost activity sheets and resources available.

Ascension Resources

The following resources may be helpful complements to your May 13 lesson:

  • Catechist magazine offers “The Ascension: Your Past, Present, and Future” that includes an explanation of this day in the Church, as well as an Ascension prayer and Bible lookup puzzle.
  • Have you wondered why the Ascension of the Lord is listed twice on the Liturgical calendar—is it May 10 or May 13? Is it a Holy Day of Obligation? Read this Catholic resource page, which explains the reason behind the different dates and the details of when it’s celebrated.

Pentecost Resources

The following Pentecost resources may help complement your last lesson of the year (May 13) or, if your classes are still in session, help you plan a Pentecost lesson:

  • Making the Sign of the Cross is one of the first ways we learn about the relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Review the language and motions of the Sign of the Cross with your Promise students with this handy activity sheet, available in Spanish and English.
  • The Pentecost Puzzle activity sheet will help Venture students answer the question: What happened after the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles?
  • The Holy Spirit is the most challenging of the Three Persons of the Blessed Trinity to comprehend. While we may not be able to see the Spirit, we can see the good the Spirit does. Use the Come, Holy Spirit activity sheet to help Visions students select the actions of the Holy Spirit.
