Year B: John 2:13–25

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus makes it clear that the real temple of God lies within us. His cleansing of the Temple in Jerusalem calls us all to cleanse ourselves. We have the days of Lent to make a special effort to become less selfish and more loving—to renew and deepen our covenant with God.

Year A Scrutiny: John 4:5–42

In this Sunday’s Gospel, a Samaritan woman visiting the village well becomes the bearer of Jesus’ Good News to her townspeople. Jesus chose a woman and a Samaritan to spread his message. He offers her living water, which brings a realization that Jesus is the Messiah and his new community will include Samaritans. We are first given living water at Baptism. Through our Baptism we become part of the community and given the grace to live as Jesus did.

See The Gospel at Home (English and Spanish) for suggested family activities and discussion starters related to this Sunday’s Gospel.
