Easter brings a change of color (white) and the return of the “Alleluias” at Mass. Did you notice that the Alleluias were gone during Lent? The word Alleluia comes from the Hebrew for “praise the Lord.” It is a joyous announcement of the Kingdom of Heaven, which we celebrate during Mass. During Lent, we are anticipating the coming of that Kingdom instead of its presence, so we don’t sing Alleluia. This change also reflects the penitential, solemn tone of Lent. Now that it’s Easter—and we celebrate the Kingdom made present through Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection—the Alleluias are back in a big way.
Celebrate the joy of the Easter season in song. Each week, Pflaum lesson plans suggest music from our CD collections—for the gathering and closing prayers as well as the Gospel Ritual. The songs and printed lyrics are available to download.
