The Pflaum Gospel Weeklies are a liturgically-based catechetical program that helps parents participate in their important role as the first educators of your children.
Choose from the list of resources below and on the right of this page that you can use at home. New articles will be added periodically, and the Gospel at Home is updated throughout the year to connect each Sunday Gospel to the children’s handouts for each age level.
Parent Teaching Pages
Parent Teaching Pages are easy-to-use guides that walk parents through teaching each lesson with step-by-step instructions, background information, and discussion starters. Parents who are assisting their children at home will benefit from both these simplified guides and the Lesson Overview Webinars.
Digital Edition Guide
Covers how to register for the digital Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, what the digital editions give students access to, where to find the lesson guides for parents and teachers, and the return and restriction policies for the digital product.
Parent Quick Start Overview
Our Parent Quick Start Overview helps parents understand the various components of the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies and how they work together and reviews the new Parent Teaching Pages on the website where parents can help foster faith at home.
The Gospel at Home
This simple resource connects you to your child(ren)’s lesson each week. Designed for busy families, The Gospel at Home provides a short description of the Sunday Gospel and suggested activities and discussion starters for each age level. These easy-to-do ideas will bring families together to share what each member has learned about the Gospel that they heard on Sunday (and studied in class). Available in English and Spanish.
It’s important to assess student comprehension and to gauge the effectiveness of your teaching methods. These assessments (available for grades K-9) are provided in two formats – PDF to make duplication simple and Word if you wish to personalize them to your needs. Permission is granted to duplicate these ONLY as a supplement to the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies.
Word of the Week
Seeds and Promise lessons now offer a Word of the Week to help young children begin learning the language of the faith. These words are based on thirty-two doctrinal concepts, one for each lesson. The words appear in the student lessons. Definitions are in the Teaching Guides and online here. Parents may support their child’s growing faith vocabulary by reviewing the words and their definitions at home.
Weekly Review Template
Children will better understand and retain the week’s Gospel concept when they can express it in their own words and drawings. Free review templates continue the learning at home, build a relationship with families, and reinforce the week’s Gospel lesson. Catechists and teachers can print them out for the children to complete at home or attach them to a weekly email. Weekly review templates can be found in both English and Spanish.
Handout for Families
Here’s a short but very informative explanation of what the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies Faith Formation Program is about and, why it is unique compared to textbooks. It is perfect for sending home to families to explain how the Weeklies involve the whole family in the faith journey. Available in English or Spanish.
You’ll find everything you need to learn more about using the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies for home instruction or family catechesis here.
Please note that these pacing plans can be used as a general overview for how to teach the lessons at home with one or more children. The Parent Teaching Pages are also available for lesson-specific teaching steps for parents teaching lessons at home.
