On July 25, the Catholic Church celebrates the First World Day for Grandparents and Elderly. In his message on the occasion of this celebration, Pope Francis reminds the elderly of Jesus’ promise: “I am always with you” (Matthew 28:20) and tells them that “even at the darkest moments, as in these months of pandemic, the Lord continues to send angels to console our loneliness.”
This week, we can try to be those angels the Pope is referring to and bring some joy and companionship to an elderly person who might be feeling alone. May they experience Jesus’ kindness through us.
