In this Sunday’s Gospel, John the Baptist points to Jesus as one who is coming after him and who is much greater than him. Of Jesus, John said, “I am not worthy to bend down and untie his sandals.” Jesus comes to John to be baptized in the Jordan River. When he comes up out of the water, the Holy Spirit descends in the form of a dove and the Father speaks from Heaven. God the Father is pleased with his beloved Son.
