God’s will becomes pretty clear to us as we listen to the readings on this 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time; God wants us to follow Jesus with all our heart, mind and soul. In the Gospel, some of the disciples want to take care of their affairs before following the Lord. This seems pretty reasonable, right? But Jesus’ response to them is very clear: “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”
When following Jesus, we mustn’t look back. Instead, we should keep our eyes on the price, which is an eternal life of happiness with Our Lord. The Responsorial Psalm for this Sunday says it best, “You are my inheritance, O Lord”.
May we have the courage to give God priority in our lives, knowing that we will enjoy the delights at his right hand forever. Amen.
